About Us
Our Mission
The Knox County Scenic Drive, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization led by a dedicated team of volunteers whose mission is to celebrate, preserve, and promote the historical landmarks and points of interest throughout Knox County, Illinois. Through restoration efforts, community engagement, and an annual fall event, we work to honor the rich rural heritage of Western Illinois and keep its stories alive for generations to come.
A Tradition Rooted in Rural Heritage
Every October, during the first two full weekends, Knox County transforms. What starts as a peaceful landscape of winding roads and golden fields becomes a vibrant celebration of history, community, and fall charm. The Knox County Scenic Drive is more than just an event—it's a cherished tradition, drawing visitors from across Illinois and beyond to experience a curated blend of rural life, nostalgia, and small-town pride.
Historic one-room schoolhouses, an 1832 log cabin, a restored jail, the 1865 barn, and the iconic Old Knox County Courthouse open their doors to the public. Guests can explore local museums and heritage sites that bring the past to life with live demonstrations like rug weaving, butter churning, blacksmithing, broom and basket making, and pumpkin carving.
But it’s not just about the past. The present shines too—through mouthwatering eats (yes, we're talking ribeye steak sandwiches, stone soup, and elephant ears), charming vendors, antique displays, and hands-on activities. From pony rides and antique tractors to Native American dance performances and musical saws, every stop along the route offers a unique piece of the Scenic Drive experience.
And if you're in the mood to shop, you’ll find no shortage of hand-crafted goods, antiques, and collectibles waiting at every turn. Whether you're hunting for fall décor or just browsing with a cider in hand, the Knox County Scenic Drive is an autumn tradition that delights all ages.
